APX portable radios
High-specification handheld radios designed for command and frontline deployment, with full P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 capability, military-grade durability, and comprehensive encryption options.
CellQual supplies and integrates Motorola Solutions APX and P25-compliant radio systems for command-level operations, public safety agencies, defense units, and organized operational programs requiring the highest standards of reliability, security, and interoperability. Every APX and P25-compliant system we supply is programmed, integrated, and commissioned by our team before operational handover.
Command and unit radio systems are designed for organizations where communications failure is not an option. Police commands, fire service incident management, military headquarters, emergency operations centres, and large utility operations all depend on radio systems that maintain clear, secure, and reliable communications across complex environments, multiple sites, and high traffic loads.
CellQual supplies and integrates selected Motorola Solutions APX and MOTOTRBO radio systems. APX products are associated with P25 mission-critical radio environments, while MOTOTRBO is primarily based on DMR technology. Interoperability between different radio technologies depends on appropriate gateways, interfaces, system configuration, frequency planning, encryption arrangements, and operational implementation.
Beyond supply, CellQual provides the engineering services that make a radio system operationally effective: system architecture design, radio programming and configuration, console and dispatch integration, site infrastructure assessment, RF coverage planning, commissioning, acceptance testing, and post-deployment support.

APCO Project 25 (P25) is a suite of standards developed for digital radio communications used by public safety, government, and defense organizations in North America and increasingly worldwide. P25 matters because it provides a common technical foundation for standards-based interoperability across radio equipment from different manufacturers. Actual interoperability depends on system profiles, interfaces, frequency planning, encryption, configuration, and operational implementation by each agency, allowing organizations to mix and match equipment while maintaining a common communication capability. It also provides a clear migration path from analogue to digital, and supports advanced features such as encryption, unit ID, and GPS tracking.
Motorola Solutions APX radios support multiple encryption standards including DES, AES-256, and FIPS 140-2 compliant algorithms, depending on the specific model and configuration. The appropriate encryption level depends on the customer's security classification requirements. CellQual can advise on the right configuration for your operational needs.
Yes. P25 supports backward-compatible operation, meaning digital radios can operate in analogue mode on existing channels while the infrastructure is progressively upgraded. This allows organizations to transition incrementally rather than replacing all equipment and infrastructure simultaneously.
A conventional P25 network assigns fixed channels to specific user groups. A trunked P25 network dynamically assigns available channels from a pool to active calls, making much more efficient use of spectrum and supporting a larger user population on the same infrastructure. Trunking is typically used for large, multi-agency public safety networks.
Yes. CellQual can provide user familiarisation training for radio operators and system administrator training for IT and communications staff responsible for managing the network. Training scope and format are agreed as part of the project.
CellQual can assess your command communications requirement and propose a Motorola Solutions system that meets your operational, security, and interoperability needs. Contact us to discuss.
